End of the day can be so nice to photograph. This one on lake on Drava river is no exception…
-”Yes.”
-”Really?”
-”For sure.”
And than it usually stops. They don’t ask anymore, and I don’t feel like explaining.
But, really. What is it about photographing landscapes, why do I like it the most?I could write about beauty of the nature, being one with it, etc. You know, lets go hag a tree… But it’s not that. Not only that, anyway. There is lot more than that, mostly selfish reason of running away from everyone and everything. No, I’m not a manager, CEO, surgeon, pilot, the whole world is not standing on my shoulders. But, I do like to go away and be lost from time to time. Landscape photography is helping me do that.
Typically, on Friday afternoon, I’ll run Google Earth, and check out where I could ride my bike to. Yes, of course i go on a bike! It’s easy to go somewhere with a car, take some photos and get back home.I like to make a plan, see where I could go, if I have enough time, I will plot a more or less detailed route, mark couple spots that I “must” visit. On a Saturday afternoon, I’ll probably miss half of the roads that I planned to take, find more interesting places than the “must visit” ones, and finish my route some 20 km away from originally planned place. There will be 50 to 100 photos on my memory card, some better, some worse. Sometimes I’ll have couple photos to show the world, and sometimes none…
OK, but what is it that I love about photographing landscapes, you ask? It’s easy. When I put earphones in my ears, put my cap on, start pedaling, time is no more part of my equation in that day. There are only me, music, bike and photos around me. Anything I might see may be a photo. In any moment I can get of my bike take a photo and pedal away. Or not, I can spend whole day near a tree or a lake. I don’t care. There is no deadline to meet,no order to fill, no model to talk to, no people with smart ideas how things should look. There is nothing, only me and my balloon that I created for my self. It could be full of holes, without color or in psychedelic colors, but it’s mine and it’s looking like I want it to look. As the day is coming to it’s end the walls of my balloon get thinner and thinner, just to disappear as I come back home. Only thing that’s left are photos that I made and thouhts that I had while in a balloon. And that time I spent there is most precious, it’s part of creative process that will who knows when create who knows what. And in the end, a tree, mountain, water or something elese are excellent models. They don’t ask or want, they are not unhappy if the photo is not flattering them or some detail is not like they thought it will be.
-”Really?”
-”For sure, photographing landscapes is freedom that is difficult to find.”
It’s summer here on northern hemisphere, this week forecast for Croatia is record breaking high temperatures, I’m back from vacation, and I need something to cool down. I thought this warm-cold winter photo could serve well.
I usually don’t publish photos that I didn’t process on my home computer, but today I’ll make an exception, since this day is really good for me, continuing great evening that I had yesterday. Although it didn’t look like that only two days ago, when my camera got properly splashed by a rather large wave! Of course, the camera refused to cooperate anymore and all hat was left of a great sunset was my memory of it. Let me write about it. There was a front of clouds over horizon and the sun fell behind them. I was cursing my luck, because with no sun there was no sunset to photograph! But, than sun rays spread all over the sky in the orange – blue pattern in the shape of fan. At that moment that aforementioned wave hit my camera…
So, the nigh passed, my camera got well
and was ready for more sunsets. Like this one that I captured yesterday evening. Sun was already under the horizon when this cloud rolled in. I’ve opted for vertical composition and some rocks in foreground to emphasize the scale of the cloud. And everything else is heavenly creation…
